Career in food technology


Every day, we consume food differently, the experts behind it are called food technologists. After the revolutionary development of new technologies, there has been an increase in the demand for food technologists. If you are planning to pursue a career in food technology or you are in process of graduating from the food technologybranch, you should know the various career options you can opt from. Before that, let's see what is food technology.

Food technology is the science that involves all the techniques and activities involved in preserving, processing and manufacturing the foodstuff. Food technology is not only the branch of engineering but also the branch of food science, hotel management and home science.















If you have graduated in the food technology branch, you have multiple career options waiting for you. You can go for a master's degree in food technology or you can start working. In work culture, you can opt for a job or can start your own business.

Production manager

It is a profile based on the intersection of business, design, and technology. The production manager has to prepare the proper schedule of food production according to the orders the company gets. He/ She needs to forecast the risk problems before commencing the work. They need to ensure the quality and hygiene of the product and monitor the optimum nutrition contents of the products. They must also ensure the safety of the employees.


Food scientist 

A food scientist is a person who studies the microbiological, physical and chemical properties of food. They use their knowledge to improve and create new technologies and methods of food production,  processing and packaging. They research new methods to reduce the time and cost of production.


Food consultant

Food consultants are experts in gastronomy, food safety and food quality who advise food industry businesses and professionals on the development and improvement of their foodservice operations. A food consultant can work with restaurants, food producers, schools or any other food service facility. Food consultants usually prepare prototypes of food.

 
Process engineer

The primary role of a process engineer is to determine, control, check and measure physical, chemical, and biological processes. They identify manufacturing processes and work to eliminate errors and increase outcomes. They also have to maintain the production documentation.


Quality assurance manager

The Quality assurance manager has a key role in maintaining the standards set in regulations and comply with all internal and external requirements. This role also requires to collect and interpret data on the standards and procedures and provide suggestions to improve them. They are also responsible for maintaining the long-term continuity of production and service.


Marketing manager

A marketing manager is responsible for managing the promotion and positioning of a brand or the product and service that the company sells. Marketing managers are employed to attract more consumers to buy the company's products and raise brand awareness through marketing campaigns. They also have to ensure that the company gets a good return on the money that have invested.

Procurement/ purchasing manager

Procurement is all about obtaining items at the best price possible. The key role of the purchase manager is to create and implement regional procurement strategies that are innovative and cost-effective. They should have excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills as they have to constantly work with the vendors and suppliers and have to make sure that services are delivered on time and at the correct price.
